FAQ

What is the donation of a body to Science?

The donation of a body is a highly altruistic act, which allows scientific knowledge to progress and represents a great advantage for present and future generations.

How are bodies donated to Science used?

The bodies donated to Science are primarily used for training in anatomy (dissections and/or study of anatomical specimens) for first and second year medical students. Later in the university curriculum, training in morphological anatomy, operative anatomy and radiological anatomy is also provided for medical students at the Master's level as well as for physicians in the process of specialization or for medical specialists. In addition, at CURML, bodies donated to Science can also be used for training and research in medical and forensic sciences.

How do I donate my body?

Registration is necessary, via a registration form, which can be requested from at the UFAM secretariat.

Can a body be refused?

Usually, UFAM does not refuse any corpse, and strives to honor the wishes of the deceased to the extent possible. However, for reasons of public health and to ensure that the condition of the body is compatible with teaching and/or research work, UFAM may not accept the donation of a body under certain conditions, detailed in the Body donation document).

What happens to the body after it is used for teaching and/or research?

After its use, the body is sent to the Funeral Home for cremation.
Depending on the wishes of the deceased, the ashes are placed at the disposal of relatives or buried in the Bois-de-Vaux cemetery.

What are the costs associated with a body donation?

All costs related to the donation of a body are covered by UFAM. However, other types of expenses related to the ceremony, funeral notices, etc., remain the responsibility of the family.
